About an Old Guy is a novel about friendship, redemption and facing the past.
Friendship is the soul’s answer to connect with someone
who leads where you can’t take yourself.
Murray is old. He likes bingo, card games and making new friends. He’s been carrying a burdensome secret for most of his adult life and wants to free his conscience but doesn’t know how.
Mavis is a young woman in a complicated marriage. She plays baseball and goes to church. She doesn’t want or need to make a new connection, especially one with the old guy her husband invites over to play cribbage. Despite attempts to discourage a budding friendship, Mavis grows fond of Murray. He reminds her of her late father. Goodwill flourishes between them. Murray decides to accompany Mavis to church and learns about devotion to God. |
One night, Murray is attacked while walking home from Bingo with a wad of winnings in his pocket. The assault triggers memories he’d sooner remain buried and the past comes back to bite him. Events that happened years ago about what happened to Amanda, could change everything between him and Mavis―unless they learn the essence of what it takes to remain true friends.
